Configuring

Freeway will save you the most time if you configure it before using it. To configure Freeway, you will need to complete the requested information on the Configure page.

Starting Address

Under the Starting Address section, enter the address where you want the driving directions to start from. Typically this address will be the home or office address where you are using this computer. This address will be used when generating directions using the Driving Directions from Home feature of Freeway.

Driving Directions Web Site

Under the Driving Directions Web Site section, you are presented with a list of popular driving directions generators to choose from. This will be the web site used to generate your driving directions when you use Freeway. Select your favorite web site or the one you are most familiar using.

Optional Information

Under the Optional Information section, you are given the opportunity to enter your email address to be notified of Freeway updates or new products from First Productions, Inc. that you may be interested in. This step is not required to configure Freeway. Enter you email address only if you wish to receive these occasional messages.

Privacy Policy

We will never share any of your personal information with any third-party. Your address information will not be stored on our server for your protection. For information about how we protect your privacy, please read our Privacy Policy.

Changing Settings

Once Freeway is configured, you can change your settings at any time by revisiting the Configure page. If you entered your email address but are no longer interested in receiving messages from FirstProductions, either follow the unsubscribe instructions at the bottom of the email message, or clear the email address box on the Configure page and click the Configure button to update your settings.

Downloading

Before downloading Freeway, be sure to configure it first. To begin the setup process, go to the Download page and click the Download button. Then follow these steps to complete the setup.

Step 1

After clicking the install button, your browser may display a security warning and block the installation, as shown in the illustration on the download page. If this occurs, press "Edit Options..." and a window will appear. Click "Allow" to permit software installations from this website, and then click "Close." You will have to press the above install button again to continue the installation. If you need help completing this step, click the Show Me link at the end of the step on the Download page for a screen image of the step.

Step 2

When the "Software Installation" window appears, select "Install Now" to install the Freeway Driving Directions extension for Firefox. If you need help completing this step, click the Show Me link at the end of the step on the Download page for a screen image of the step.

Step 3

After the installation finishes, Freeway Driving Directions will be listed in the "Extensions" window. Close this window by pressing the "X" button in the top-right. If you need help completing this step, click the Show Me link at the end of the step on the Download page for a screen image of the step.

Step 4

Restart your internet browser to complete the installation of Freeway. This is necessary for Firefox to complete the installation of the new extension. Now that Freeway is installed, read the section Using Freeway to learn how to get the most out of the software.

Uninstalling

To uninstall Freeway, follow the instructions on the Uninstall page.

Using Freeway

Driving Directions from Home

To get driving directions from your house (the address you entered as the Starting Address when you configured Freeway) simply highlight using the mouse the address on the web page you would like to use as the destination address, right click the selected text, and click "Driving Directions from Home" on the context menu. Freeway will display the driving directions using the web site you selected when you configured the software.

Driving Directions from Somewhere Else

Begin by following the steps for getting Driving Directions from Home (listed above) selecting "Driving Directions..." from the right-click context menu instead. After selecting this option, you will be presented with a page that will allow you to change the starting address to somewhere else before generating the directions. You can also modify the destination address or select a different generator from this page.

When the Address Isn't on a Web Page

While the primary purpose of Freeway is to provide faster access to driving directions to destination addresses found on web pages, if the destination address is in another program such as an email or word processor, or even written down on paper or in your mind, Freeway can still get you driving directions faster. To use this feature, open a new Firefox window or tab, or use a window or tab that is already open. Then on any web page or your home page, right-click in the empty background space on the web page and select "Driving Directions..." from the context-menu that appears. Do not select any text before right-clicking. You will be presented with the opportunity to enter a destination address to get driving directions to (as well as a chance to modify the starting address or generator).

Trying It Out

We have put together a page that contains general information about how to use Freeway as well as an address that can be used to test out the features of Freeway. This page is available here.

Troubleshooting

Unable to Parse Address

When Freeway is unable to automatically parse the address you selected using its powerful address-recognition technology, you will be presented with a page similar to the one shown when you select "Driving Directions..." with the exception that the Destination Address section is blank. You will need to manually enter the destination address in order to generate the driving directions. For your convenience, the text you selected is printed on this page. You should encounter this page infrequently and only when the address you select is in an unusual format or on a page with an unusual design.

Freeway is Not Configured

If you receive the message that Freeway isn't configured when you try to generate driving directions, yet you have already configured Freeway, first check to be sure you have not disabled cookies in your web browser. If cookies are disabled, you will be presented with a message and instructions for enabling cookies in your browser when you try to configure or reconfigure Freeway. If you are sure that cookies are enabled yet you still receive the "not configured" message, the Freeway cookie may have been deleted from your computer. In this case, you will need to re-enter your configuration information and try again.
